| Icon Sporthorses is committed to the training of and caring for the
competitive horse and rider, specializing in hunter/jumper and
equitation. Our experienced trainers conduct individual and group
lessons for intermediate to advanced riders. Our goal is to further
horse activities in East Tennessee through riding lessons, training and
education.
Icon Sporthorses is a private, full
service facility nestled on nearly 70 acres in a quiet town located at
the foothills of the Great Smokey Mountains and is convenient to
Knoxville, Maryville, and Lenoir City, Tennessee. Icon's original 46-stall Morton Barn and indoor arena (90x200)
were built in 2000 and a 210x160 outdoor arena was added in the spring
of 2006.
In early 2008, 9 new stalls
and 3 grooming bays were added to accommodate the Maryville College
Equestrian Team; in November of 2008 new footing was added to ensure the
health and wellbeing of the horses who call Icon home.
There was no stopping in 2009 with 10 additional
stalls and 2 grooming bays added to bring the total stall count to 56.
The hot-walker is being relocated to its own building along with 4 additional quarantine
stalls.
The 47,000 sq. ft. barn
boasts a client lounge with full kitchen; 8 grooming bays; 2 indoor wash bays
and 2 outdoor wash bays;
a saddle room which is heated and cooled for the protection of the
leather tack; a trunk room with lockable storage cubbies for riders' daily items;
a hot walker; and 2 apartments occupied by UT students who conduct
nightly checks on the horses and facility.
Icon is proud to be the home
of the Maryville College Equestrian Team. The team was founded in 1994
by student Christen McCammon. Before her graduation in 1996, Christen
was the first to represent Maryville College in the
IHSA
National Horse Show.
Since that first showing in 1996 the team continues to grow and
represent our area on a national level. Today Christen (now Christen
Khym) still manages and effective 2008 now trains the Equestrian Team.
In 2008 two representatives of the college attended the IHSA
National Horse Show.
